Problem Recognition, Definition, and Evaluation

The new team for AACE class has already completed its 5 days intensive class and formed the team named Simatupang AACE 2014. In regards to prepare the team for long distance class which is has so many tasks that have to be completed, we have to manage our workload effectively to achieve our target. W3_ANG_AC Selection Considering Attributes


Problem Statement

Continued from my last posting that talked about selection of air conditioner product based on its optimal total life cycle, now I would talk about the same selection of air conditioner product but based on multi attributes.

In the case I have, I need air conditioner covering main bed room that size twenty-four meter square. Based on below rule of thumb, the required capacity is one and a half PK or twelve thousand BTU.



There are bunch of twelve thousand BTU air conditioners in market, so which one should I choose? There are many brands, many types which offer various attributes in market.

I would solve this problem using Tools and Technique discussed in Engineering Book, chapter 14: Decision Making Considering Multi Attributes”, page 551-573.

W7_APE_The Selection of Crew Transport Strategy to Site


  1. Problem Definition

I had discussion with my manager concerning the selection of crew transport strategy to our site from Ternate. Two options available where 1st option is using speed boat combined with commercial vehicle in 5 hours travel time, and 2nd option with commercial aircraft straight to site in 30 minutes travel time. The consequence of option two is investment cost for upgrading existing airport to 2C ICAO airport class.
